IGTV was built for videos far longer than a Reel. That changes a few things about the download, so here is what to expect.
Bigger files than Reels
An IGTV video can run for many minutes, so the MP4 is much larger than a Reel. Use Wi-Fi for long ones and keep the tab open until it finishes. Files up to 300 MB come through in full, which covers most long uploads.
Quality of older uploads
You get the highest resolution Instagram kept for that video, shown on the result card, and nothing is re-encoded. Older IGTV uploads may be stored smaller than new ones. The Instagram video quality guide explains why.
Portrait or landscape
IGTV allowed both vertical and horizontal videos. The downloaded file keeps its original shape, so a landscape interview stays landscape on your screen. The result card lists the width and height, so you know before you save.
IGTV to MP4 on iPhone
Safari saves the file to Files → Downloads. Long videos need free space, so check storage first. Then tap Share and choose Save Video to put it in Photos.
IGTV to MP4 on Android and PC
Chrome writes the file to Downloads. On a computer it opens in VLC, QuickTime or Films & TV. Can't find it? See where downloaded files end up.
When an IGTV link fails
A /tv/ link that returns “We could not read that post” usually means the video was deleted or the account is private. “Instagram is busy right now” clears after a minute or so.

In the Instagram app, tap the share icon under the video and choose Copy link. An old /tv/ link works too.

IGTV became Instagram video
In 2022 Instagram merged IGTV into its normal video feed. The videos stayed, the name went away.

Does IGTV still exist?
Not as a separate app or tab. Instagram merged IGTV into its regular videos in 2022, but old IGTV videos and links are still online.
Do old /tv/ links work?

Can I download Reels and IGTV with the same tool?

Is there a length limit for IGTV downloads?
We do not trim videos. The full IGTV video downloads, whatever its length, up to a file size of 300 MB. Long files simply take longer on a slow connection.
Can I turn an IGTV video into MP3?
Yes. Press MP3 instead of Download and you get the soundtrack at 192 kbps. It suits long interviews, talks and live replays.
Why can't I download IGTV from a private account?
Those videos only play for followers who are signed in. We never sign in to Instagram, so private IGTV videos stay out of reach, by design.
Where does the IGTV MP4 end up?
On Android, in Downloads, and it shows in Gallery soon after. On iPhone, in Files → Downloads; tap Share and Save Video to copy it into Photos.
Can I re-upload an IGTV video I saved?
Only your own videos, or ones the creator has cleared for you. Saving a talk to watch offline is personal use; posting it again or using it commercially can break copyright law and Instagram's terms.
